Obama - Organizer of the Dead

Barack Obama in ye olden tongue, the ancient language of birds before the Fall of Man, is often loosely translated as "Master of the Undead" but the technically correct translation is "Community Organizer of Dead Names."

It is expected that the height of Obama's necromantic powers will peak during All Hallows Eve, when many will wear masks featuring either his likeness or the outward facade of his dreaded lich nemesis, McCain the Ancient, who is rumored to be over 10,000 yrs. old and unable to send e-mail or text messages due to his mummified state. [Note: in ye olden tongue, John McCain roughly translates into "Grumpy McClub-to-the-Head"]

The ceremony determining the ascension to power occurs the following week when both the living and the dead (but not the young, who are too damn lazy to vote) shall rise from their deep lethargy to cast ballots on broken shards of pottery and declare allegiances to their ineffectual potentate. It is during these dire hours that the organized communities of the dead will vote en masse, especially in battleground states, and the living must be wary lest they be devoured.

To ward off the dead, it is advised that you carry garlic, silver, and water blessed by the Holy Father with you at all times during your perilous pilgrimage to the Booth of Voting.  Do not bother carrying any forms of ID which will only weigh you down.  They won't be necessary, although they could be useful for identifying your rotting, half-eaten carcass should you get waylaid by revenants.

If you are a knight-errant or a vassal with no castle or voting district, please contact ACORN. They will supply you with a bath, a shave, lots of mead, and van trips to many Booths of Voting.

After the Judgment of the Electors has been decreed by the screeching harpies and officious, dung throwing yahoos of Media, the Defeated One will be cast out of society and imprisoned in the dark abyss of iniquity mockingly referred to as "The Senate." Within those foul, reeking chambers, the defeated brethren will scheme new plots of treachery to be unleashed upon the world when they shall emerge again to kiss hands and shake babies.

Lord help us all.

greed IS good

wall street

people that work on wall street are greedy and not risk averse.  and that's a good thing. they serve an important function.

- region of higher selection pressure
- higher risk, greater rewards
- things evolve more quickly
- gives us a competitive advantage against other nation-states

Net result is that it helps to proliferate innovation and technological advances.  Companies that can revolutionize society.

Risk of dangers also.  Need to keep the risk contained - so that if the market crashes, the rest of the economy shouldn't be signficantly affected. Tech bubble, housing bubble, oil bubble, etc.

Of course, not everything that Wall Street comes up with will be good. Unscrupulous or dangerous beasties may arise and escape into society to proliferate and wreak havoc.  Regulators have to be vigilant for parasitic, viral creations.  Make sure that they do not create situations outside of Wall Street that could destabilize society.

I suppose that every so often a particularly nasty beastie will evolve that is good at fending off the regulators - perhaps by paying off Congressmen - or is good at evading detection by disguising / falsifying its behavior and insidious nature.

I consider memes to be "living" things (mind viruses), so I suppose financial instruments and their associated concepts could also be considered to be memes.  How many people it infects to create advocates and converts is something to monitor.

Also, is it any wonder why there is a deep-rooted "crisis of confidence" when the memes of economic disaster, recession, and depression have been proliferated and inculcated for about two years?  A lot of people have been brainwashed into the inevitability of financial collapse, so deprogramming people to behave more rationally is going to be a hard task.  Oh well, I suppose if you have a bit of cash on hand, it's a great buying opportunity.  Heheh, just call this "CNN's Recession #1."

Now, I'm not saying that this economic mess was created purely through memes. However, I think it's possible that a downturn could have been worsened into a collapse since psychology and speculation plays a significant role.

There is also a conflict of interest in the media since they are ratings driven.  Sensationalizing disaster is important for their viability - especially within a competitive market.  The bigger the disaster, the better.

i could be wrong, of course, but it's interesting to think about.

edit: why the heck did i put dashes in "every so often" for no good reason? my brain isn't functioning.

How Obama could KO McCain in 1 easy step

Obama has McCain on the ropes and looks to win on points, but if he wanted to, he could KO McCain right now and end it.

He just needs to make a minor policy shift on one issue, perhaps before or during the last debate, and it would all be over.

Taxes.

Obama has already said that he would have to delay some of his spending proposals and may not raise taxes given the current economic situation.  All he has to do is step out a little further and add that if it were in the best interests of the nation and the economy, he would even CUT taxes across the board (including the wealthy) and even consider CUTTING THE CAPITAL GAINS TAX if it would help stimulate the economy.

KO. Game over.

This shift does many things to help Obama.

It would show that he is not a rigid ideologue.  It would show that he is flexible and can adapt to changing circumstances.  It would decimate the two-pronged attack being launched at him right now by McCain i.e. that 1) Obama is an extreme leftist / socialist, and 2) Obama's taxes would ruin the economy. This would win over the Independents and make Obama look much stronger with respect to handling the economy. It would also be an example of "reaching across the aisle" ideologically.  Finally, Obama only has to say that he would "consider" it - not necessarily even do it.

Negatives - very few. This shift is unlikely to cause major defections from the Dems when they are this close to victory.  McCain might try to portray this as a flip-flop, but it won't matter. Obama could easily counter by saying that his position on taxes isn't based on blind ideology, but rather on pragamatism.  He could say that for Republicans, taxation is too much a religion, while for Democrats, taxation is simply a tool used in good governance.  There are times when it is best to raise taxes, and there are times when it is best to lower them, etc. etc. If they attack him by asking how he could fund any of his programs while lowering taxes, Obama could easily counter by saying that the most important task right now is to fix the economy. Everything else must wait.  Once the economy has recovered, then we'll go from there on how to implement new programs.

With this shift in strategy, there just wouldn't be any significant avenue of attack left for McCain. They might try stories about ACORN or whatnot, but I doubt they'd do enough damage.

Also, the fact that Iraq has stabilized helps Obama since Independents are less fearful about handing off the war to someone inexperienced.  Petraeus taking over operations in Afghanistan also helps Obama by similar reasoning.

Anyhoo, Obama probably doesn't need to do this to win, but if he did, his victory would be a fait accompli.

This election would be O-V-E-R.

(actually, there is one slim chance for mccain, but that would be to link the current economic mess to the democrats and to big gov't in general. however, it's too easy to neutralize that attack by playing the blame game ...)

one last thing ...

i meant to stop posting since i've been procrastinating from life, but i just wanted to get out one last thing ... not that anyone is reading, but anyhoo ...

organizations are interested in self-preservation - including the megabanks. the "crisis" was created by self-serving loans by banks and low interest rates, and the temporary "solution" is loaning / giving reckless banks our money and lowering interest rates? ok ... so how is this not going to create another problem later on down the line ...

also, i don't see why gov't can't work with banks at the local and regional levels to assist them in setting up business loans. gov't is fixated on unwieldy and inefficient top-down approaches. congress prolly gave our money to the wrong people at the wrong level ...

if banks won't lend out money, you go around them - to force competition and make them lend out money or die off. i assume that banks make money by lending money. if they are not lending money, then they must have some alternative revenue source and are not functioning as banks, or they are anticipating more bailout money or ... again, the important principle to remember is that these banks are not altruistic, but selfish, agents that ran amok and broke the established ESS. they cannot be trusted.

currently, the gov't is seeking to re-establish the previous equilibrium state; however, if the megabanks were one of the primary causes of disruption, then you are merely feeding the beast / cancer that created the mess. their existence may be counterproductive, and you may have to apply selection pressure through promotion of sound competitors and alternatives. the threat of extinction may be necessary to rein in their "selfish" behavior.

these are just broad principles based on the casual observation of an outsider. to sum up - 1) do not trust the megabanks, 2) assist their competitors, 3) do not fall into the trap of trying to re-establish "normalcy."  you will just recreate the same conditions prior to the crisis - which were unstable and led to the crisis - thereby perpetuating the crisis, not resolving it.

just general principles to keep in mind ... unfortunately, we seem to be doing precisely the opposite things ... whateva. i'm not an expert at anything anyway.

have a nice day! buh-bye!

edit: about the libor lending issue ...

is this partly a technical issue where contracts were written out pegged to a benchmark that seemed reasonable at that time, but now has gone haywire?  since so many things seemed to be pegged to Libor before banking became a minefield, is there a way to artificially lower and set Libor to a "reasonable" rate until the dysfunctional banks are washed out of the system? since the rates are based on reported estimates (and there may have been underreporting before), why can't the estimates be "adjusted" (or have phony transactions where bank A lends to bank B and bank B lends back to bank A at some rate agreed upon through global gov't consensus)?

this would be a phony number, of course, but it seems to me that containment is needed to prevent the cancer from spreading outside of banking while the industry is undergoing chemo. the real Libor number could be reported separately under a different acronym - perhaps W.T.F., and that number could be used where it makes sense to use it (i dunno what Eurodollar futures contracts are all about, but i assume they'd be pegged to W.T.F. instead of the "adjusted" Libor).

i dunno everything that is pegged to Libor - just know that some home loans, student loans, and small business loans are pegged to it, but by creating an artificial Libor, you could then decouple old contracts from the current credit mess, i suppose. again, not sure what else is pegged to Libor, so maybe this idea is just stupid. heh. playing around with a benchmark is kinda underhanded, and maybe there is a better method out there. also, dunno if banks are already manipulating it for their own benefit.

then again, manipulating Libor may apply undue pressure to lenders, but an overly high Libor will apply pressure to borrowers who could default. pick your poison?  meh. dun like the idea, but if it's a case where a benchmark that is normally useful has gone bonkers, i suppose it's necessary. unless it is supposed to go bonkers and is performing properly. or maybe the number hasn't gone bonkers, but is being overstated.  hmm. i dun know enough about the issue or all of the inside baseball stuff to make a reasonable guess.

there seems to be a lot of hysteria about subjects that are unfamiliar to most of the population, so it is probably the perfect opportunity for unscrupulous behavior and manipulation. not sure which are the most reliable, objective numbers that could be used for assessment of impact.

blah blah blah about stuff i don't know anything about lol. interesting tho.

so, it's over for mccain ...

1) it's too late for negative attacks - prolly won't work now since obama can just counter with something like, "We've got the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression, and they're bringing up garbage about things that happened when I was 8 years?"

2) the only thing less popular than bush is congress ... but mccain can't effectively run against congress since he's been a part of it for decades.  only palin can, but she'd have to blast her boss as well.

3) if mccain does the "i failed the american people, we failed the american people, but i'm going to washington to fix it" routine, obama will dance around with glee and say, "Hey, I've barely been in the Senate."

4) the media's picked its candidate and will defend him as much as possible in the last month. just write two types of stories - a) essentially create an "objective" and "balanced' article by inserting obama's talking points to blunt any negative stories and attacks on obama, b) churn out "hard-hitting" stories "to get to the truth" on mccain / palin.  factcheck whitewash.  propaganda is too obviously one-sided.  it works better if you try to be 50-50 to gain trust, but then are more surgically precise about where you lie or omit facts.  people are not in the mood to vote republican, and it's easy for the media to feed us what we want.

oh well, if the economy totally tanks while obama is prez, u'd figure he's gonna push some kind of fdr, New Deal II solution and turn us into europe.  maybe that's what he wants.

personally, i'd prolly benefit more from obama winning, but whateva.

oh yeah, saw the clip of o'reilly and frank yelling at each other.  lots of insightful, informational content can be gleaned from that segment - just like the pie fights in the three stooges.

real news with real people?

these aren't real people. these are caricatures.

so what you are watching isn't real news, it's a caricature of news.  a parody of news and journalism.  personas / cultivated images pretending to be doing the news, when it's really just infotainment and narratives. narrative. narrative. narrative.

if i hear that word one more time ...

doing a parody of the news is easy.  you get a screech monkey from the left and a screech monkey from the right, and have them throw verbal poop on each other.

this is journalistic excellence in the making.

courage.

when watching the news these days, i go for information, entertainment value and cleavage.  ok, i lied.  it's just cleavage.  i think they really need to work on finding the best camera angle from the side.  and maybe have more leaning forward action.

uh ... hmm, what was i talking about again?  got distracted and lost my train of thought. oh well. probably just the usual blah blah blah.

not rly interested in convincing someone about something or other. most of what is going on in my brain is wrong anyway.  mental flotsam and jetsam.

haven't really bothered to think very deeply about this stuff or to apply more structured principles to analyze specifics, so it's mostly superficial, knee-jerk reaction.  sorta busy with other stuff.

just moving from point a to point b going blah blah blah.  ah well, bye.

advice for McCain in the debates ...

The problem with the current format with moderators is that certain questions or issues that conservatives or liberals would like to have asked are never brought up.  The best thing would be to have the moderator quickly go over the basic issues of the economy, foreign policy, etc. for the first half of the debate, and then to let the debaters go at each other in the second half.

Palin attempted to do that, but since it was not that kind of format, it made her look like she was not answering the questions.  Biden pointed this out, which is a basic high school level debating technique.

I'm not sure of the format of the remaining McCain-Obama debates, and I'm too lazy to find out.  I think one of them is townhall format, but it doesn't matter.  If the remaining debate questions are prosaic, then it's over.  Obama wins (unless there is some "October surprise").

Instead of just responding to the moderator's questions, McCain needs to start injecting his own questions into the debates to catch Obama off balance.  McCain should preface this by saying something like, "I don't think the media is asking the tough questions that need to be answered by Obama, so I'm gonna do it myself."

For example, let's say McCain gets a question on foreign policy.  He should answer it briefly with a sentence or two, and then ask a different question to Obama.  Obama then has to answer two different questions, and he can't ignore McCain's question since that will look evasive.

If the moderator starts complaining, then McCain should answer in maverick style like, "Get bent" or "Bugger off you commie pinko."  Well, maybe not exactly like that, but you get the idea.

Moderators will never ask questions about Obama's ties to Ayers, or the Infants Protection Act, or other issues that could trip him up. More importantly, although the media will ask numerous questions along the vein of "why isn't government doing more?" (ideologically aligned to the left), such as providing additional services and expanding bureaucracy, they will never ask questions that are ideologically aligned more closely to the right, such as "why don't we get rid of these inefficient agencies?" or "do you think it is time to get rid of the income tax?" or "should government do less?"

You're far more likely to get questions about addressing "inequities" rather than loss of individual liberty.

And blah blah blah.

[insert more useless blather here]

It's funny since I'm not really ideologically aligned to either liberals or conservatives, but that's blah blah blah.

blah blah blah?

blah blah.

meh, too lazy to edit.

football analogy? wth ...

just read Krauthammer's column. heh.

OK, let's do football analogy. Obama's using an effective ground game and running out the clock, and maybe throwing a few short, high percentage passes. The refs (media) are partial to Obama, and the calls have all gone his way. This simple blueprint worked against Hillary (although just barely - after she made a furious comeback in the second half).  Hillary had hoped to take the game into overtime, and perhaps even into the Convention, but it was not to be, and Obama took a knee to seal the win and become the representative of the Democratic Football Conference.

In the Republican Football Conference, McCain and Giuliani both came out of the Moderate Eastern Division, and Romney and Huckabee came out of the Conservative Mountain and Southern Divisions.  McCain had an easy victory over Giuliani, who never showed up until it was already over.  Romney and Huckabee showed no love for each other and fought a bruising battle which Huckabee came out of as the weakened survivor.  This set up a surprisingly easy win for McCain to gain the Conference title.

In the big match, Obama controlled the game early with superior field position, but neither side could gain any momentum.  The first big play of the game occurred when McCain threw a stunning TD strike to the rookie, Palin, and briefly took the lead, but the refs called it back on a questionable penalty. The drive then stalled with a couple false starts and other calls against the inexperienced Palin, so they had to settle for a long FG which just grazed the uprights, but made it through.

The economic crisis suddenly put McCain on the defensive, and Obama methodically drove down the field and put up more points to widen his lead. McCain tried another deep bomb by streaking to Washington, but it got intercepted in the end zone with excellent coverage by Obama's safeties.

With time running out, and McCain down by more than one score, McCain might need to try some exotic blitzes or D-line stunts to force a turnover and regain possession. Obama will counter by using the quick, precision passing of his Left Coast offense to avoid the sack, or just hand the ball off to Biden for a few yards up the middle to grind more time off the clock. If McCain does regain possession of the ball, Obama just needs to go into a prevent and not let McCain get a big play to secure a Democratic victory.

My Score Prediction: Obama 278, McCain 260 - with McCain scoring late to make it look closer than it really was.
I predicted that Obama would win this game, but McCain has been more competitive than I expected.  McCain could still win, but he's running out of time.  After back-to-back Bush titles, an Obama win would represent a solid shift in power towards the Democratic Football Conference, but also a weakening of the last Democratic repeat titleholders, the Clintons.

it's George Bush! Run away!!!

i'm just sick and tired of everyone running away from Bush.

did the guy make mistakes? yeah.

but at least defend the guy on one thing.  There hasn't been an al-Qaeda attack on American soil since 9-11.

if you want to go further, al-Qaeda is nowhere near as strong as it once was.  Iraq looked like a defeat, but Bush helped turn it around.  He dramatically shifted American power into the Middle East to try to blunt the radical Islamic forces there and to give an alternative meme of democracy to brainwash, er, inspire, people.  but whateva ... McCain doesn't seem to like Bush, so I suppose he'd rather let Bush twist in the wind and let the Dems bash him around like a piñata and get a few pokes in himself for good measure.

I think Biden won the debate.  Palin was adequate, but Biden was much more effective and specific and did a better job in directly answering the questions.

(I could go on and on, but I was rambling and all over the place so I just deleted the nonsense that I wrote.)

random^2

Actually, this is what I WISH Palin would do, but it will NEVER, EVER happen.

I wish Palin would bite the hand that feeds her and run against Congress and Washington - including McCain.

To out-maverick the maverick.

She is the only NORMAL person in the race. The other 3 are senatorial 4ndr01ds trained in doublespeak.  She should just blast all of them and say what's on her mind.  She shouldn't bother synching up her brain to McCain's positions. She should just state her positions and let the chips fall where they may.

The media will try to attack her for having differing views.

The answer to that is simple.  "So what?"

Essentially, she should run almost independently of McCain.  She should say that she'll stand up to Washington, and even John McCain, to fight for the little guy.  When push comes to shove, McCain would have the power as President, but that shouldn't stop Palin from speaking her mind or trying to do what she feels is best for the country.

The advantage of this tactic is that she can savage the entire Washington political-industrial-military-infotainment-KGB establishment with a free hand for the bailout bill and the economic mess that was created by Washington.  There's no point in trying to defend McCain on this.  Instead of wasting time trying to figure out who's the least guilty, it's easier to throw them all under the bus.  They all deserve to get run over.

Anyhoo ... it's an oddball strategy, but it would be funny as heck to see it happen ... which is why it never would.

edit: I wish she would say something like ...

"Frankly, they're all nuts in Washington.  They've completely lost touch with reality.  Obama's already written two autobiographies about himself.  Biden thinks he connects with the middle class because he takes Amtrak.  And McCain, God love him, has been in Washington for how many decades? And on top of that, you have an incestuous, narcissistic, vapid media freakshow that believes that it is the intellectual center of the universe. Give me a break.  When Washington politicians and its media take a good, hard look in the mirror, it's only to adjust their hair and makeup."

if i were a bank, why would i lend out money and expose myself to risk when i know that gov't is gonna bail me out? and if i think that congress might pass another bailout bill, why shouldn't i wait a little longer to see if there's another one on the way with even better terms?

not an economist, but wouldn't knowing that congress will bailout my bad loans make the credit crisis worse?

doesn't congress leaving the door open to further bailouts make the crisis linger?

wouldn't the proper way to get the banks lending again be to help businesses find alternative sources of credit and financing that compete with banks?

dunno ...

The awesome awesomeness of the Senate

The Senate has just passed the bailout bill.  Let's listen in to their comments ...

Reid: No, you're awesome!

McConnell: No, you're awesome!

Dodd: No, you da man!

Gregg: No, you da man!

Reid: High five, baby!

McConnell: This is how Congress is supposed to work - destroy the economy and then throw a band-aid on it, so that we can destroy it again.

Gregg: And all at taxpayer expense! Ain't life grand!

Dodd: Yeah, that's right. This is Congress at its finest. Good job guys.  I'm really proud of you.  Anything else we can take credit for?

McConnell: Let's give ourselves a hearty round of applause!

Reid: I can't believe we actually behaved like we were all mature and responsible.

Gregg: Hey, did anyone see this crisis happening?

Dodd: Yeah, but good thing we let it fester and waited till the last moment, so we could all be heroes in saving the economy!

Reid: Brilliant!

Dodd: You're awesome!

McConnell: No, you're awesome!

Gregg: Guys, guys.  Put aside your disagreements and bickering.  Let's face it.  WE'RE ALL AWESOME!

Reid: Damn straight!

it's not rope a dope when u got two dopes

-_- lest we forget that our two-idiot system blew up the economy.

read in some of the comments on dick morris' blog about how people think obama is doing the ol' rope-a-dope to john mccain. pfft.

what's disappointing is that mccain is the self-professed reformer.  yet, i don't see much leadership out of him.  where is the fire?  where is the anger?  the only anger right now is coming from the people that are ticked off.

personally, i'd like to see mccain show a bit of that rumored rage that he keeps hidden inside - mebbe like the incredible hulk. does he turn green and his eyeballs pop out with bulging veins and his pants rip off and he runs around in his underwear through the halls of congress screaming "mccain, smash!"?

the pen waving thing just doesn't cut it - unless he's gonna stab people in the head with it yelling, "Reform, you sob!!!"

do i think mccain will bring about reform. no. palin's a real outsider, so she actually is a wildcard, but she has no clout or cred without mccain backing her up. obama just wants to settle in a nice, big, comfy chair for the next 8 years, so he's not gonna rock the boat.  biden ... pfft.

bleh. gonna vote for the lesser of two whatevas who might actually reform wastingtown. uh, yeah right ... lmao. like that will ever happen.

also, the problem is actually the system itself because it selects for people that are just good at getting votes (effective campaigner / support system) - not at being competent, but that's a different issue ....

How Palin could win the election in the debate ...

(edit: for a more conservative, and less entertaining option, just do the limited gov't thing - see way below)

Palin has a perfect opportunity to blast Obama by attacking him via the media attacks against her.

Here's how.

She shouldn't complain about unfair media coverage.  She should say something like ...

The media SHOULD ask questions and look into people's backgrounds.  The danger is in UNEQUAL media scrutiny.  When one side is treated differently than the other.  When one candidate is handpicked by the media over the other in the primaries or in the general election.

There are many questions about Obama that have NEVER been asked or that he's been given a free pass on.

1) Obama has admitted to cocaine use.  Why was this hidden under the rug and never even asked as a question by the media?  The public should at least be informed and allowed to decide for themselves.

2) Obama tried to excuse his ties to the terrorist Ayers by saying he was 8 yrs. old during the bombings.  What kind of an excuse is that?  Was he 8 yrs. old when he sought Ayers' political assistance and continued to meet with him?

3) Obama's economic advisors have direct responsibility for the collapse of Fannie and Freddie, even giving themselves big bonuses through fraud.  Obama is the number two recipient of money from them.  Where are the media questions and scrutiny?  Why hasn't he been asked these questions?

4) Obama has exercised bad judgment in selecting his closest political, economic, and spiritual advisors.  His selection of Vice President wasn't that bad (ha ha ha).  But his choices call into question his judgment when selecting a Cabinet.  Whom does he rely upon for advice?

5) How much foreign policy or executive experience does Obama have?  He's had a year to polish his words and his theoretical knowledge, but how much real experience does he have?

6) Obama was asked eight questions at a press conference and then he ran away.  And that was it.  Why does the media think that level of scrutiny is good enough for him, but not for everyone else?

7) In the last debate, Obama was asked which policies he would cut.  He had no answer.  John McCain did.  Ask Obama again.  Sen. Biden, which policies would he cut first?

8) Obama keeps saying that he'll tax only the rich and give 95% a break.  Yeah, gimmie a break.  Doesn't he understand that the taxes will be passed on to you, the consumer, through higher prices?  Isn't the price of gas high enough, or do we need to have the gov't add another tax to it?  Does it matter if you get taxed directly or indirectly?

9) Obama wants to create more big gov't programs.  The more, the merrier.  Just why is it that we keep having to BAILOUT OR FIX these big gov't created programs or institutions?  Fannie and Freddie.  Social Security.  Medicare and Medicaid.  Welfare.  Well, you can add Obama's socialized healthcare to that list.

10) Obama keeps saying that he wanted to send more troops to Afghanistan from Iraq while the war in Iraq was still going badly.  Doesn't he realize that the war in Iraq would have lasted longer and we would have suffered more casualties, and yes, even possibly lost the war in Iraq, if we had done that?  It's just common sense.  You don't worry about burning the roast when the kitchen is on fire.

meh. losing interest, but something along those lines.

could also go into a general riff / theme about how gov't creates problems, underperforms, don't get your money's worth, public schools, blah blah blah.

"DO YOU TRUST BIG GOV'T?"
palin should gesture towards biden.
"then he's your man. vote for him. vote for obama."
"or do you trust small gov't?  a limited gov't that solves problems without creating them.  a gov't that doesn't create messes that you have to keep bailing out.  there are a lot of ideas in washington that may sound good at first - but are terrible when you actually implement them."

"this election is about change.  but it's not the kind of change that the media would like you to believe.  the change - the choice -  is between big gov't bailouts vs. small gov't.  a gov't that's too big for its own good or a gov't that's in touch with main street - that trusts in the common sense of the average american."

yadda yadda yadda.

essentially, you want palin to be a symbol of small gov't, main street, common sense vs. big gov't, washington/wall street, highly educated idiots

yadda yadda yadda

edit: more blah blah blah.  also, the thing is to attack obama by attacking the media.  instead of asking, "what about obama's cocaine use?" you ask ...

"why didn't the media bother to question obama about his cocaine use?"
"why did it take the media so long to ask about his pastor?"
"why hasn't the media pushed more on his connections to ayers?"
"why hasn't the media asked obama about ..."
"why has the media ignored ..."
"why has the media covered up ..."
"why hasn't the media looked into this issue?"
etc.

if biden counters that she's attacking and smearing obama, she should counter that she is not.  she is merely pointing out the fact that the media has failed to live up to its responsibility to the american people. they have been directly advocating one candidate over the other.  even hillary clinton would agree with me on that. or something along those lines ... i suppose.

bleh, my support for mccain is tepid, but he is lesser of two poopoo heads.

edit edit edit edit: also, she should light her hair on fire as she's eviscerating the media and obama.  she should also interrupt biden often throughout the debate by shouting out "c-c-c-c-combo breaker!!!!11!!!"  common sense, small town values are sooooo 20th century. wuh the heck am i talkin 'bout?  yes.  many people think kansas is a myth that sank into the oceans 10,000 yrs ago after they built the pyramids. but kansas does still exist in the hearts of all mankind.  and in their music.  no.

What is Libor?

link to article by Alan Zibel explaining what Libor is and how it is a reflection of the current credit difficulties ... in case ya wondering.  seems a lot of other news entities printed the same article.

just been watching CNBC, and they kept saying how impossible it was to explain to the average american what Libor is because we are all a bunch of idiots.

hmm, looking at historical charts of Libor rates ...

Libor historical rates

Bloomberg article on jump in Libor

hmm, wonder what the actual volume of lending is?  and are there alternative sources of funds?  also, wonder if i can look at historical Libor rates without looking at other factors in the economic environment at that time ... and after an orgy of easy credit, you'd expect some retrenchment.  pfft, wonder if the "solution" might end up causing another crisis in the future like an oscillating wave with too much overshoot.  how much of the crisis is irrational fear vs. rational behavior?  questions questions questions.

whom do you trust?

no one.

even the experts can't guarantee that the bailout will work.  and i sense that they lack the proper tools for rigorous analysis of the problem.

but it would be interesting to really dissect this thing apart and see how it ticks ... so time intensive ... would be tricky to figure out all of the different levels of selection, the relevant time scales, and the many species involved within the economic environment.  meh.  don't have time. time. time. time. =P
